Job Vacancy - Field Service Technician

Spida Machinery is growing our business in the USA and Canada. We are looking for field service technicians to join our team. We need mechanical and electrical talent to provide installation, maintenance, and technical support for our computer-controlled high-tech, precision machinery.

Tasks & Responsibilities

As a Field Service Tech, you would fly to customers locations throughout the USA and Canada to conduct multi-day installations of our machinery and providing training for our customers. You would also troubleshoot and repair Spida’s machinery consistent with Company standards to ensure high quality work and customer satisfaction. With general guidance from the Service Manager, work is primarily performed onsite at customer facilities throughout the US. You will travel at least three weeks a month. Typically, you would fly out on Monday and fly home on Friday, however overtime and weekends may be needed.

Safely and effectively performs installation, maintenance and repair on automated saws, floor truss table, floor and roof truss stackers, wall panel line, truss line and other equipment within required specifications and deadlines to ensure performance expectations and customer needs are met. Performs all work consistent with customer needs and in accordance with mechanical assembly prints, electrical, other system schematics and Company standards and practices.

Trains customers how to properly operate and maintain the machinery and equipment and acts as a trusted advisor.

Performs technical services consistent with technical support agreements in a complete, high quality, and timely manner to meet customer commitments and minimize disruptions to the customer's operation. Has a good understanding of and can both articulate & demonstrate to end-user customers, Spida's service and support delivery methodology.

Operates a variety of equipment such as hand and power tools, tablets/computers and diagnostic hardware.

Ensures all paperwork is completed accurately, timely and consistent with company policies/practices. Records, maintains and submits time sheets, airtravel, call, mileage, and expense reports along with receipts.

Skills & Experience

To be successful in this position, you must have at least 5 years of demonstrated experience in electrical and mechanical services and installation of machinery. Be able to read, interpret, analyze, and apply specification documents, technical procedures, mechanical drawings and electrical schematics, safety rules, and operating and maintenance instructions to produce projects according to customer needs and expectations and company standards.

  • Must have ability to use word processing effectively and efficiently, spreadsheet, inventory, design, internet, order processing, project management, and manufacturing software. You must be able to recognize and understand the functional and operational use of IT signal and power cables as well as low voltage wiring systems and to perform diagnosis and repair. Ability to connect and communicate with a laptop to download control panel settings and upload firmware upgrades.

  • You must possess mechanical aptitude with competency in electricity & electronics, and the ability to properly use test equipment, basic hand tools, electronic testing equipment and electric meters. Ability to use appropriate test equipment to troubleshoot and diagnose problems.

  • Be a demonstrated self-starter with ability to work independently and within a team based/collaborative environment with a can-do, innovative, and positive attitude. Possess strong organizational skills and ability to pro-actively plan work tasks/schedules to meet deadlines while maintaining accuracy and quality.

  • You must be able to represent yourself and the company with confidence, honesty, and credibility. You must be able to move, lift, and carry materials, equipment, and parts. Ability to move service equipment weighing up to 70 pounds, in both an indoor and outdoor environment.

  • Must possess valid US Driver’s License in good standing and a Passport to travel internationally to Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

About the Role

  • Job Type: Full-time

  • Salary: $29.00 - $38.00 per hour

  • Benefits: 401(k) with matching, medical, dental and vision insurance, Life Insurance, vacation, sick and holiday paid time off.

  • Schedule: Extended hours, Monday to Friday, Overtime, Weekend availability

  • Expected hours: 40 – 60 per week

  • Willingness to travel: 75% (Required)

  • Work Location: Home based but work is done on the road.  Employee must reside within 1 hour of major airport in USA.
